Copper transport

Copper is a raw material of key importance for the modern economy. It is used in energy (transmission lines, transformers), electronics (printed circuits, cables), automotive (electrical systems, batteries for electric vehicles), and construction (water and sewage systems, heating and air-conditioning installations). Due to its value, weight, and sensitivity to damage, copper transport requires precise planning, regulatory compliance, and advanced security procedures.

Specifics of Copper Transport

Transport of copper bellCopper is transported in various physical and commercial forms, including:

cathodes (flat rectangular plates weighing approx. 100–150 kg each),
wire rods and wire (heavy reels requiring anti-rotation securing),
granules and electrolytic copper in Big-Bag sacks,
Class A and B copper scrap – transported loose or in containers.

Each type of cargo has different requirements for packaging, securing, and immobilization in the cargo space (in accordance with EN 12195-1), as well as identification procedures.

Due to the high market value of copper (quoted on the LME), it is essential to use special physical protection measures – including customs seals, GPS monitoring systems, convoying, guarded parking (TAPA), or designated high-security routes. In some cases, documents confirming the legal origin of the cargo are also required – especially for scrap and secondary raw materials.
